total neurotypical death.

the orb was designed to make microtones and jazz improv playable to those that can’t be bothered to remember thousands of chords and the relationships between them, without the compromise of harmonic potential.

microtonality: the orb uses MPE pitchbend to calculate the perfect Just Intonation harmonies of each note, allowing for harmonic ratios that are otherwise completely out of reach in 12-tet.

orb:

central to the design is the orb, which takes you along the circle of fifths, though because it moves in perfect 5ths / 4ths, it is better described as a spiral. this also means turning clockwise brings your entire composition slightly higher in pitch, and lower going anti-clockwise.

clicking down the orb brings you to the current chord’s relative minor.

the thumb touchpad brings the root note back to standard 12-tet. you can do so while playing a chord to produce a pitch bend effect.

strings:

chords are played on the right touchplate. they are velocity sensitive and have aftertouch. the layout is designed to play inversions here are a few you can try…

chord modifiers: these change the tonality of the chord. the orb uses an algorthem to allow you to combine multiple modifiers at once. this creates a multiplicity of possible tonalities. __ of them to be exact. this is what makes the orb so uniquely jazz capable as a chord instrument.

above the orb, you can also bring the octave up or down by tapping the head or body of the gleeble gnarp

lock pedal: with more droning compositions, you are able to preserve the configuration of a single string by using the locking thumb pedal, or simply holding onto it as you switch to a different chord. this allows for techniques like pedal point, but its also just fun to improvize with.

repairability: modular stratic design allows you to make any needed replacements. email me and i’ll let you know if there are any parts i have left in stock. if your orb is still under warrenty i will send you it for free.
